National Nagiation Awards Scheme

NNAS is a nationally recognised, certificated and structured navigation award scheme for all ages. If you are new to the outdoors or the use of a map and compass or fairly competent and looking for formal recognition then this award is for you.

BRONZE AWARD

This award is ideal for beginners who wish to learn navigation who have little or no previous experience.

Award Outcomes

Be able to understand and iterpret map scales, symbols & grid references using a variety of maps.
Be able to orientate and set the map to the ground without using a compass.
Learn new skills such as 'thumbing' and 'handrailing'. This allows you to read your map while on the move.
Understanding the Country Code.
Be aware of basic knowledge covering first aid skills and procedures to be followed in the event of an Emergency and equipment requirments.
Plan and under take a safe day in the outdoors.

Silver Award

This course is ideal for those who have some navigational skills but want to develop new ones. On completion of this award participants will be able to plan and follow routes off tracks and paths.

Award Outcomes

Plan routes using a variety of navigational skills such as attack points, aiming off and collecting features.
Use a compass effectively.
Judge distances on the ground using pacing and timing skills.
Relocate if you loose your way.
Demonstate a knowledge and understanding of the country code.
Understanding of environmental issues.
Plan a safe route using the silver award skills.
