Overview

Join us in this classic Sea 2 Summit Challenge covering some 100km on bike through the Great Glen in the Scottish Highlands, one of the most famous mountain landscapes in the world, before summiting Ben Nevis the highest mountain in the UK. This is a challenging weekend both mentally and physically, testing your entire muscle range. You will enjoy stunning views of the Scottish Highlands, and a fantastic sense of achievement when you complete the weekend, the Sea 2 Ben Nevis challenge is designed to pull all of this together for you, the adventurer.

What is included in the cost of the challenge?
The following items are included in your challenge: a challenge leader and full support team, relevant back-up vehicles and driver, group first aid supplies, one night accommodation, all meals whilst on the challenge, pick up the local train station before and after the challenge.

What is not included?
Travel to and from Scotland Bike Hire Accommodation in Inverness. Personal Insurance 

Itinerary 

Day 1
Inverness – Loch Lochy
Your challenge begins today in Inverness on the East Coast of Scotland at Inverness Castle. This morning you will meet early for an introduction to your challenge leader, support team and the rest of your group. You will have an introductory briefing which will include important safety information. You will then be split you into different groups, each of which will have its own highly qualified cycling guide.  You  will begin your ride following the River Ness and cycle through the Great Glen following the Southern Shores Loch Ness on quiet country roads with stunning views. You will arrive in Fort Augustus for lunch enjoying the back drop of the Scottish Highlands.
Your afternoon continues with short 9 mile ride on a mixture of cycle paths and road continuing through the Great Glen. Ben Nevis will be looming in the distance before you arrive in Loch Lochy where you’ll change your bikes for boats for a 2-hour canoe down Laggan Corridor. This is a stunning sheltered section of the Caledonian Canal of which you will be accompanied by canoeing guides. Overnight in a nearby Scottish Highland Hostel.
Day 2
Loch Lochy to Ben Nevis.
After a hearty Scottish breakfast, you’ll be back on your bikes for final 22 mile ride to Ben Nevis, where your third and final activity begins. Swapping your bikes for boots, you will begin your climb of highest mountain in the UK, Ben Nevis standing at 1,344 metres with your dedicated Mountain Leader.  The trek begins on the main path from Glen Nevis, that was originally built to service a meteorological observatory of which the remains still stand at the summit.  The trek to the summit takes approximately 4 hours and involves 1,370m of ascent.  On summiting you will have the chance to enjoy the breath taking views of the Scottish Highlands.
The walk back down should take approximately 2.5 hours.   We aim to complete the challenge by 6pm, please do allow a little extra time, if you are planning onward travel after the event.
On completion of your challenge we will provide a transfer to Inverness.

Essential Information 

Cycle
We recommend you bring either a mountain bike or hybrid with a rear working light, cycle helmets must we warn at all times. Bikes can be rented for £35.00 It is challenging ride with a couple of challenging climbs, The roads will all be open to other traffic, so don’t assume there won’t be a car around the corner. It is your responsibility to negotiate safely around the route and to comply with all road traffic regulations. Approximate distance 65 Miles

Trek
The trekking section of the challenge will take place on Ben Nevis it’s a steady climb to the summit taking around 4hrs, then a long 3hr descent into Glen Nevis. The trek will be led by qualified mountain leaders. 

Canoe/Kayak
We use Canadian canoes, which are very stable and easy to paddle no previous experience is required. You will also be provided with a buoyancy aid.

Weather and Safety
The weather in Scotland can change very quickly, what can start out as a good day can soon become very poor. It is very important to be well equipped and prepared for all conditions. The Leader reserves the right to change the itinerary at any time should the conditions require it.  In these circumstances we will make the best alternative arrangements possible that maintain the integrity of the original itinerary.

Health
All our guides are first aid trained and carry fully equipped medical kits for serious medical emergencies.

How big is the group?
Our minimum size group is 10 and a maximum of 30 with 12 participants per challenge leader.

How fit do I need to be?
The amount of training you will need to do will depend on your starting level of fitness and if you currently ride a bike or walk in the mountains regularly. A good level of mountain walking fitness is definitely required as is cycling.

What food and drinks are included?
At lunch time you will stop and have a light yet energy filled picnic.  Dinner and breakfast will be either at the hostel. Water and snacks will be provided throughout. Please let us know prior to departure if you have any specific dietary requirements or allergies.

What do you do to protect the environment?
We limit the impact we have on the surrounding environment by remaining on the paths at all times so as not to cause further erosion on the mountain. We will ensure that all rubbish is disposed of responsibly and take all rubbish away with us.

It is possible to reserve a place on this challenge by email to info@adventurousewe.co.uk, however you will need to pay your deposit of £85 to confirm your place on this trek together with completing a booking form. The full balance is required to be paid no less than 4 weeks prior to departure.
