Overview
Experience an incredible long weekend of adventure in the heart of Europe with the Summits & Canyons: High Tatras Slovakia Trek, created exclusively for Gwent Police.
Over three action-packed days, you’ll explore two of Slovakia’s most spectacular national parks – the High Tatras and Slovak Paradise. Discover dramatic gorges, towering peaks, waterfalls, and unique rock formations as you hike through pristine alpine landscapes and along limestone canyons.
In Slovak Paradise National Park, prepare for a truly memorable experience as you climb ladders beside cascading waterfalls and cross wooden bridges suspended above clear mountain streams. This exciting route rewards those with a head for heights and a spirit of adventure.
Your journey then continues into the peaceful Belianske Tatras, one of the most beautiful and lesser-visited parts of the Tatra range. On your final day, you’ll ascend Predné Solisko (2,093m) – with a well-earned helping hand from a chair lift halfway up the mountain. The panoramic views from the summit are nothing short of spectacular.
Throughout the trip, you’ll stay in a welcoming 3-star hotel or guesthouse nestled amidst the Tatras or in the nearby town of Poprad. Expect hearty Slovak meals, friendly local hospitality, and plenty of moments to unwind after each day on the trail.
This weekend adventure blends challenge, exploration, and camaraderie in equal measure – a perfect opportunity to reconnect with nature, your teammates, and yourself.

Your adventure begins with a warm welcome at Krakow Airport, where you’ll meet your driver and join the one designated group transfer to the Tatra Mountains. The exact transfer time will be shared once flights are booked, though it typically departs in the mid-afternoon.
Enjoy the scenic drive through rolling countryside and mountain valleys before arriving at your accommodation in the village of Stara Lesna in the High Tatras.
After settling in, gather for a hearty dinner with your local guide and fellow adventurers. It’s the perfect chance to chat through the exciting weekend ahead and prepare for the trails waiting to be explored.

This trek is graded as Moderate to Tough. You’ll be covering between 11–17km each day across uneven and sometimes steep terrain, so a good level of fitness is required to fully enjoy the experience. Elevation gains are generally 400–700m per day, and while the trails can be challenging, the pace will always be steady and manageable.
Sections of the route in Slovak Paradise National Park include ladders, catwalks and narrow ledges, which are sturdy, well-maintained and secured to the rock. You should, however, feel comfortable with heights – imagine climbing a sturdy ladder to the third storey of a building. Your guide will always be close by to offer support and guidance.
As with any trek in mountainous terrain, safety is paramount. Your local guide will assess conditions daily and may adjust the route if necessary to ensure the wellbeing of the entire group.
A bespoke training programme will be provided once you join the team for this adventure to help you prepare both physically and mentally for the trek. The plan includes practical advice, video demonstrations, and tips for building strength, endurance, and confidence on uneven terrain.
The more prepared you are, the more you’ll enjoy the experience. Whether it’s regular hill walks, gym sessions, or weekend hikes, every bit of training helps build fitness and resilience for the trails ahead.
Our motto is simple – train hard, smile harder, and enjoy the journey!
