Training and Preparation
Preparation is key when it comes to taking on an adventure to make sure you enjoy the experience. When you join an Adventurous Ewe trip you will be provided with a bespoke training guide packed with plenty of tips and recommendations for your adventure ahead. To make sure you have the best experience on your challenge we highly recommend having a good level of strength, stamina, endurance and good ole grit and determination. Your training should incorporate aerobic (endurance building), anaerobic (strength building) exercises!
So with saying that and given that we find ourselves in different times at the mo, we’re thrilled to bits to have teamed up with the hugely enthusiastic personal trainer Peter Lant from Bath Kettlebell Society to help you build your strength and endurance. Peter has previously completed our Welsh 15 Peaks Challenge, a gruelling 3-day mountain trek conquering the 15 highest peaks in Snowdonia, so he’s very familiar with our adventures and the training needed to ensure you enjoy the experience.
Peter has 3 training packages available for members of the Adventurous Ewe flock together with a fab AE 20% discount offer:
- A subscription based strength & endurance training package
- A 28 day online strength & endurance training challenge
- Bespoke training plans available for your specific goals
All of these come with a free downloadable app to deliver the programs along with a Nutrition app which has been developed by a UK Registered Dietitian and are both super easy to use. No matter where you are on your training journey, from a very beginner through to someone with more experience, these packages can be adapted accordingly.
Intro to Peter – his story may just resonate with ewe….
After working as a trader for a major utility company for 15 years Peter developed the classic ‘desk posture’ and all of the aches and pains associated with it. As the former self confessed ‘King of lethargy’ Peter decided it was time to get strong before it was too late. He was made redundant in 2013 and decided to take some time out to focus on getting himself in shape.
He very quickly realised that strength (or lack of it) was his main problem which drew him into learning more about how the body moves and why it’s important to use the whole body as a system to ensure you stay strong, fit and healthy for life. So Peter then studied with StrongFirst, Original Strength, FMS and is currently studying P-DTR so he can help people conquer pain and regain their movement and strength capabilities so they can complete challenges with reduced risk of injury.
Peter is the founder of Bath Kettlebell Society where he likes to work outdoors with small groups of people who spend most of their time staring out of the window longingly (as he used to do). He also trains people online and runs monthly challenges to introduce strength training principles to those who are curious but unsure where to start.
Peter’s training philosophy is “Train for longevity, you only get one chance in this life so you’d best make it a strong one”
He likes to challenge himself and has completed the Fan Dance and also walked non-stop 72 miles solo from Cheltenham to Bath along the Cotswold Way which took him 30 hours. He likes hill walking and just generally being outdoors, which is why he joined Adventurous Ewe on the Welsh 3000s in August 2019.
Here’s a quick intro to Peter and how his training plans can set you on the right path for your next adventure:

It’s all about the sheep factor – biodegradable kit from ashmei
As part of our commitment to sustainable and ethical operations, all our beloved Adventurous Ewe crew are kitted out in merino based AE t-shirts supplied from ashmei.
Merino wool is peerless when it comes to performance: it is anti-bacterial, non-itchy, warm when it is cold and cooling when it is warm and most importantly it is recyclable and sustainable. Synthetic materials are bad for the environment, not only because of the petrochemicals used to manufacture them, but also because of the aggressive chemicals required to clean them and remove the stink factor. They are not easily recycled and usually end up in land fill. Not so for merino wool, the source could not be more natural. There are no requirements for chemicals to keep the nasty smells at bay and after years of use, they can be recycled or they are completely biodegradable. Ashmei only source Merino Wool from happy sheep. They have hundreds of acres of land to explore, encounter no artificial chemicals and are NEVER mulesed. Ashmei consider this to be a very important part of our mission to create high-performance sportswear ethically and sustainably.
We love a happy sheep and a great eco-friendly yarn here at Adventurous Ewe! Go the sheep!
