Overview
Take on the mighty Ben Nevis – the highest mountain in the UK – and be part of an incredible team trekking to raise funds and awareness for Pancreatic Cancer Action..
Standing at 1,345 metres, Ben Nevis towers over the dramatic landscape of the Scottish Highlands, offering a truly rewarding challenge. The trek follows the Mountain Track, which begins at Glen Nevis and ascends steadily to the summit. Though the route is well-defined, it’s a demanding climb that requires determination, good fitness, and teamwork – all of which make reaching the top even more special.
Led by qualified Mountain Leaders, you’ll be in safe hands throughout, surrounded by spectacular scenery and the camaraderie of your fellow trekkers. Whether this is your first mountain or your next big adventure, you’ll enjoy an inspiring day in one of the UK’s most beautiful wilderness settings.
By joining this trek, you’ll not only experience the thrill of the journey to the summit of the UK’s highest point, but you’ll also be helping to save lives through early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. Every step you take helps fund vital awareness, education, and research initiatives led by Pancreatic Cancer Action.
This is your chance to climb for a cause that matters, push your limits, and stand proud at the top of the UK – knowing you’ve made a real difference.
Pancreatic Cancer Action
Pancreatic Cancer Action is the only UK charity dedicated solely to improving survival rates through early diagnosis – because early detection saves lives. Founded by Ali Stunt, herself a survivor of pancreatic cancer, the charity’s vision is simple but powerful: a future where more people are diagnosed early and go on to survive.
They work year-round to raise awareness of symptoms and risk factors, campaign for better diagnosis, and empower people to share their stories. Quite simply, they know pancreatic cancer can be caught early – and as long as the charity exists and is supported, they’ll keep pushing to make that happen for more and more people and your support can help.

Ben Nevis Trek for Pancreatic Cancer Action
Route: The Mountain Track (formerly the Pony Track)
Your adventure begins at The Glen Nevis Visitor Centre, located 1.5 miles along the Glen Nevis road from the Nevis Bridge mini-roundabout. There’s parking for approximately 80 cars and it’s the perfect place to meet your Mountain Leaders and fellow teammates for a pre-trek briefing before setting off to conquer the UK’s highest peak in support of Pancreatic Cancer Action.
From here, your ascent of the mighty Ben Nevis (1,345m) begins. The trail follows The Mountain Track, originally built as a bridle path to service the former summit observatory. The route climbs steeply from the outset, winding up through a series of small zig-zags towards Lochan Meall an t-Suidhe — often called the Halfway Lochan — at around 570 metres.
After a short rest, the path continues to rise more steadily up the stony western flank of Ben Nevis. A series of broader zig-zags criss-cross the mountainside, leading you onto the rocky summit plateau, where the remnants of the old observatory mark the highest point in the United Kingdom.
Reaching the top after approximately 4–4.5 hours of steady climbing and 1,370m of ascent, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views across the Scottish Highlands and a huge sense of achievement. Take time for a celebratory photo at the summit cairn before beginning your descent, which takes around 2.5–3 hours following the same path back to Glen Nevis.
On returning to the Visitor Centre, you’ll enjoy a finishers’ medal presentation and celebratory toast with your teammates to mark this remarkable achievement.
We recommend allowing extra time if you are planning onward travel after your trek. Given the physical effort of the climb, it’s best to avoid long drives immediately after descending. Instead, consider extending your stay and exploring the local area around Fort William, supporting the Highlands community and soaking up more of Scotland’s wild beauty.

Responsible Trek Management
At Adventurous Ewe, responsible trek management is at the heart of everything we do. We are proud to hold the Travelife Partner Award for sustainable tourism, recognising our ongoing commitment to responsible practices across all our adventures.
For the Ben Nevis Trek, we ensure the event is delivered in a way that benefits local communities, supports the regional economy, and minimises environmental impact. Key elements of our responsible trek management include:
-
Employing local, qualified Mountain Leaders who bring extensive knowledge and experience of the Scottish Highlands.
-
Minimising plastic waste by encouraging the use of refillable bottles and hydration systems.
-
Avoiding route markers on the mountain, which can be moved or left behind, and instead relying on professional leadership.
-
Operating under a clear ‘leave no trace’ ethos, ensuring the mountain environment remains unspoilt for future visitors and local wildlife.
By embedding these principles into the Ben Nevis Trek, we aim to provide a safe, enjoyable and responsible experience for all participants.
