Across this land of fire and ice, from colourful & quirkey capital of Reykjavik to remote villages, there’s always a welcoming swimming pool, a serene lagoon, or steamy natural hot springs waiting for you. These aren’t just places for a leisurely swim; they’re steeped in tradition and folklore, vibrant community hubs where stories and laughter are shared in the warm geothermal waters.

What makes Iceland’s swimming spots truly unparalleled is the natural warmth provided by the earth itself. From public pools to hidden gems, the geothermally heated waters offer the perfect respite admidst the rawest of nature. For the adventurers at heart, take the plunge into the Silfra Fissure, an awe-inspiring swim between two tectonic plates in pure glacier water, the only place in the world where you can swim between two continents. Snorkel the crystal-clear waters between the walls of the rift of Silfra, an experience that is now considered to be one of the top five dive sites in the world.

Your journey will lead you on foot to some of the most superb wild swimming locations in Southern Iceland, where the focus is on learning new swimming & dipping skills whilst reconnecting with nature. As the day fades into evening, enjoy tailored swimming coaching in community pools, a chance to refine your strokes under the guidance of our Swim Coach. Then, unwind in the geothermal bliss of warm waters, a cherished Icelandic tradition.

This adventure is more than just a trip; it’s an invitation to be part of a community, to soak in the warmth of Icelandic hospitality, and to experience the magic of the land through its waters. Join us for an adventure that flows like the very rivers of Iceland, carving memories that will last a lifetime.

But the magic doesn’t end there. Post-swim, immerse yourself in the soothing embrace of warm Jacuzzis, a social hotspot where locals of every generation gather to exchange stories, share laughs, and forge friendships under the starlit sky. This isn’t just the beginning of your journey; it’s your welcome into a community, into the heart of Icelandic warmth and camaraderie. Welcome to a story you’ll tell for years to come.

Lacing up your hiking boots, you’ll trek through the surreal landscapes of Laugahraun lava field, Vondugil Canyon, and Brennisteinsalda, where nature’s artistry unfolds in vibrant hues and dramatic formations. It’s then time to relax with a well deserved soak in a natural hot spring, nestled among the stunning rhyolite mountains. The perfect day to reconnect with nature at its finest.

Returning to your accommodation place for dinner, the evening offers another opportunity for a tailored coaching session in the pool or a welcoming dip in the warmth of the hot tubs. Whether you choose to refine your swimming skills or simply unwind in the soothing waters, this day promises to be an unforgettable blend of adventure, relaxation, and awe-inspiring natural beauty.

Day 3

Trek Thingvellir National Park, snorkel the Silfra Fissure and dip in the Secret Lagoon

After a breakfast, you’ll hop aboard your private 4×4 minibus headed for the awe-inspiring Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site where the Earth tells its most profound story of continental drift. Feel the thrill of walking and swimming between two continents as you explore this geological marvel with a 10km trek around the Thingvellir Loop, soaking in its stunning geology and profound historical significance.

Post picnic lunch, you’ll gear up for an unforgettable swim in the Silfra Fissure, a natural wonder created by a major earthquake in 1979, now filled with glacial meltwater from the nearby Langjokull Glacier. Immerse yourself in an aquatic adventure like no other, snorkeling through crystal clear waters that flow between the North American and Eurasian plates – rated as one of the top 10 activities in the world. Marvel at the vibrant underwater landscape as you glide over lava beds and through vast volcanic canyons.

Following an early dinner, you’ll journey to the Secret Lagoon. A unique treasure kept “hidden” by locals for years. It’s known to Icelanders as Gamla Laugin or the Old Pool since it’s the oldest swimming pool in
Iceland, made in 1891. Revel in the now modern edge – scandi-style facilities, set amidst the surreal beauty of a geothermal landscape. The pool’s warm waters, maintained at 38-40°C year-round, offer the perfect sanctuary to unwind under the glow of the midnight sun, surrounded by a picturesque setting of grassy hummocky banks, small geyser hot spring, trickling hot streams and bubbling mud.

This day will become a treasured memory, one you’ll recount for years to come.

Your path takes you by the beautiful Djúpagilsfoss Waterfall as it pours into the Djúpagil Canyon, leading up to a plateau where, on a clear day, the sea stretches out before you. Despite its popularity, the hot river offers ample space for all, with well-organised changing areas and a boardwalk, making it an ideal spot for a leisurely picnic lunch.

Next, you’ll make your way to Reykjavik, check in to your accommodation before diving into a swimming experience of a different kind at Nautholsvik geothermal heated beach. This area is a popular spot for locals and is perfect for sea swimming, boasting facilities like changing rooms, showers, sea baths, and hot tubs. Thanks to geothermal heating, the human-crafted lagoon offers refreshing swims in water temperatures ranging from 15 – 19 degrees during the summer. Whether you’re looking to refine your open water swimming techniques or dip your toes in the sea for the first time, our Open Water Swimming Coach will be there to guide you through skills like race starts, sighting, drafting, and turning.
