What’s Stopping You?
Let’s Talk About the Real Barriers to Adventure Travel (and How We Help You Through Them)
You’ve just clicked on a trip that stirs something in your soul – maybe it’s a trek across the Sahara, a cycling challenge coast-to-coast in Costa Rica, or hiking across frozen landscapes beneath the northern lights in the Arctic Circle. Then that little voice kicks in: “Am I actually fit enough to do this? What if I don’t know anyone? What if I can’t keep up?”
You’re not alone. These are the most common barriers people face when thinking about joining an adventure – and we LOVE helping people overcome them.
Whether you’re a weekend rambler, a rusty cyclist, a solo traveller, or someone ready to reclaim their sense of adventure post-pandemic or post-birthday-milestone, we’re here to support you every step of the way. We’re a small, personable team, and we take great pride in helping people take that first step – and look back on their achievements with pride.
1. “Am I fit enough?”
If you’re asking the question, chances are yes, with a little training and support, you are.
Our adventures are carefully graded, from easier entry-level trips through to more demanding challenges. Most of our trips are designed for people with average fitness who are up for a challenge and willing to do some prep. And if you’re not sure where you sit on that scale – just ask us. We’ll let you know the details and can chat through what would best suit you. And don’t let age hold you back from trying something new. For a dose of inspiration, take a look at Rena and Graham’s adventure stories – proof that incredible experiences are still going strong well into your 70s and 80s.
2. “I’ve never done anything like this before.”
Perfect. We specialise in helping first-timers.
You don’t need previous experience – you just need curiosity and commitment. We’ll support you with:
- Tailored training plans
- Packing lists & kit guides
- Plenty of top tips & info docs
- Friendly advice from real people who’ve done the trip themselves
And we’re always at the end of the phone or email – no matter how big or small your question.
3. “I don’t have the right gear.”
You don’t need to break the bank to get started.
For trekking kit, we recommend Crib Goch Outdoor in Snowdonia – a brilliant independent outdoor specialist. Their friendly team will help you find exactly what you need, whether you visit in person or shop online. Even better, when you book any trip with Adventurous Ewe, you’ll receive a 15% discount code to help kit yourself out.
For cycling adventures, we recommend independent store Chapeau Cycles, an independent, privately run bike shop offering everything from servicing and repairs to bike sales, custom builds, and a wide range of parts and accessories. They’re also part of several Cycle to Work schemes if you’re looking to upgrade. Best of all, owner Chris has taken part in several Adventurous Ewe cycling trips himself, so he knows exactly what kind of support and setup works best for our adventures. Whether you need a tune-up, a new set of wheels, or just some honest advice, you’ll be in good hands.
We’ve also partnered with Peak Sports Coaching to offer remote, personalised training for cyclists, plus runners and triathletes. Jon will create a plan just for you, based on your life, goals and current ability.
Adventurous Ewe participants get exclusive perks:
- Free 30-minute intro call
- Event-specific training plans
- Fuelling tips & on-bike guidance
- Discounts on Bike-fit & Pedal Analysis

Or if you’re not ready to invest in kit just yet? Try Expedition Kit Hire and have a chat with our good friend Stu. He’s a total kit enthusiast with tailored kit lists for all sorts of adventures. He even outfits BBC expeditions, so you’re in expert hands.
4. “I’m coming alone — what if I don’t know anyone?”
That’s more common than you think! Many of our adventurers come solo and leave with lifelong friends.
We create WhatsApp groups before every trip so you can meet your teammates, swap packing tips and get excited together. Our groups are genuinely supportive, funny and full of encouragement.
And once you arrive, you’ll be part of a like-minded crew. No egos, no pressure – just shared purpose and shared trail snacks. Our friendly and approachable Leaders are there every step of the way too – ready with a warm welcome, heaps of encouragement, knowledge & experience and plenty of laughs along the trail.
5. “What if I’m the slowest?”
Honestly? We’ve all been there.
But our adventures aren’t races. They’re about shared journeys. Our Leaders are trained to support every pace, and we take pride in creating inclusive, supportive environments. You’ll never be left behind.
The truth is…
Most of the time, the biggest barrier isn’t fitness or gear or logistics – it’s confidence. It’s believing that you belong in wild places, on big journeys, doing bold things.
And here’s what we’ve learned along the way at Adventurous Ewe:
- Start before you feel ready You don’t need credentials or a perfect plan. You build capability by doing, not waiting. Sign up, start moving, and momentum will follow.
- Fear is a compass That nervous-excited flutter you feel? It means you’re onto something. Follow it. That’s where the good stuff lives.
- Detours are often the real path You might’ve set out to tick a bucket list item – but end up finding connection, confidence, or clarity along the way. Fulfilment doesn’t always follow the map you were handed.
- Small actions unlock big outcomes We didn’t start with Everest. We started with small steps – a walk, a cycle commute, a weekend hike. And look where that took us.
- Don’t just share the summit – share the climb We believe in showing the real journey. The blisters, the laughs, the wobbles and wins. That’s what helps others see what’s possible.
We’ve helped thousands of people just like you take that first step – and look back with pride, joy and disbelief at what they’ve achieved.
So if you’re hesitating or nervous – reach out. We’ll answer your questions, chat it through, and help you figure out if it’s right for you.
Because adventure doesn’t start with a summit. It starts with a question. And we’re here to help you answer it. #ewecandoit
