Overview

A weekend to bring everyone back together, with plenty of time outdoors, around the table and simply enjoying each other’s company in Snowdonia.

Your base is the characterful 4-star Lodge Dinorwig, a beautifully converted former school on the edge of Eryri National Park. Your wonderful hosts provide homecooked meals throughout the weekend, giving you a welcoming place to eat, relax and catch up between adventures.

Outdoors, you’ll trek some of Snowdonia’s quieter trails, take to the water by SUP and have the option of a refreshing wild swim or dip before warming up together in the sauna. Everything is fully supported by experienced local leaders, with activity equipment provided.

Created exclusively for your reunion, there’s a relaxed feel to the weekend with a good mix of activity and downtime. A chance to reconnect with old friends, spend time in the mountains and enjoy a few days away together.

Evening prior
Arrival, welcome and briefing

Arrive at Lodge Dinorwig anytime from 5pm onwards, settle in and catch up with the rest of the group before your weekend gets underway.

You’ll be staying in cosy shared dorm. The handmade wooden bunks have been designed with walkers in mind, each with a privacy curtain, reading light and charging point, giving you your own comfortable space to rest and recharge.

There’s plenty of room to relax together too, with comfy sofas, a dedicated drying space and mountain views from the lodge. Once everyone has arrived, you’ll have a welcome and briefing before sitting down together for a home cooked evening meal, prepared by your hosts at Lodge Dinorwig.

Included
Accommodation: Dorm room share with private beds
Meals: Dinner (local produce)

Day 1
Quarries, Mountain Trails & Elidir Fach

After a hearty home cooked breakfast, walk from Lodge Dinorwig to the nearby trailhead and head into the mountains.

Your route follows old quarry paths and mountain tracks, passing reminders of North Wales’ slate mining heritage along the way. Rusting railway inclines, crumbling barracks and weathered stone buildings tell the story of the people who once worked these mountains.

A steady climb takes you to the summit of Elidir Fach at 795 metres, with wide views across the surrounding peaks and down towards Marchlyn Mawr reservoir.

If the weather is favourable and the group is feeling strong, there’s the option to extend the trek to approximately 14 kilometres and continue to Elidir Fawr at 924 metres, one of the Welsh 3000s.

The circular descent brings a different perspective across the mountains and valleys before returning to Lodge Dinorwig. Enjoy a hot shower, put your feet up in the lounge and catch up over another home cooked dinner.

Included
Accommodation: Bell tents (share basis). Please bring your own sleeping bag & sleeping mat. These can be hired if needed.
Meals: Breakfast and a packed lunch and dinner (local produce)

Day 2
SUP, Wild Dip & Lakeside Sauna

Enjoy your final home cooked breakfast before heading down to Llyn Padarn, one of Wales’ largest natural lakes, shaped by glaciers and surrounded by the mountains of Eryri.

Take to the water by stand up paddleboard, exploring the lake’s quieter inlets and lagoons with your local instructor. Back on shore, break for a picnic lunch before deciding how you’d like to spend your final session on the water.

Join a guided wild swim or simply enjoy a refreshing dip. If swimming isn’t for you, stay on your SUP and spend a little longer paddling across the lake.

Finish the weekend with some well earned warmth in the lakeside sauna, looking back across the water and mountains you’ve spent the weekend exploring.

Then it’s time to say your goodbyes and head home after a weekend of mountains, water and time together.

Included
SUP: all equipment provided
Sauna: private session
Meals: Breakfast and a packed lunch (local produce)

Why go

Your reunion, your weekend

This weekend is all about bringing your group back together. Time to catch up properly, share a few new adventures and enjoy being away together without the distractions of everyday life. The weekend is exclusively yours, giving you plenty of time for conversation alongside the activities.

Experience a quieter side of Snowdonia

Based in Dinorwig on the edge of Eryri National Park, you’re well placed to leave some of the busier trails behind. Walk through the area’s old slate quarry landscape, climb Elidir Fach and, conditions permitting, continue towards Elidir Fawr. Adventurous Ewe is based here in North Wales, so this is very much our home ground and a landscape we know well.

Mountains and water in one weekend

There’s plenty of variety packed into your time together. Trek through the mountains on Saturday before swapping boots for paddleboards on Sunday. Explore Llyn Padarn by SUP, take a wild swim or refreshing dip if you fancy it, then finish with the warmth of the lakeside sauna.

No previous SUP experience needed

It doesn’t matter if you’ve never stepped onto a paddleboard before. Qualified local instructors provide the equipment, guidance and support you need to get started. If you already have some experience, there’s plenty of opportunity to develop your technique while exploring Llyn Padarn.

A welcoming base to come home to

Lodge Dinorwig is more than somewhere to sleep. Your independent 4 star hostel provides a relaxed base for the reunion, with mountain views, cosy communal spaces and home cooked food prepared by your hosts. After a day outside, there’s time for hot showers, good food and an evening together without needing to be anywhere else.

Carbon footprint

We’ve crunched the numbers to work out the total carbon footprint of the Snowdonia SUP, Swim, Sauna & Trek weekend.

What’s the number?
It works out on average at 29kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, leaders, crew and office operations.

The only thing not included is travel to Snowdonia (Eryri). Given that our beloved guests travel from all parts of the UK for this adventure we have no way of reliably knowing their travel plans therefore we’re unable to include an individual number in the figure on display here.

What does the number mean?
To give some meaning to the numbers:

  • Driving 20 miles in the car: 6kg CO2e
  • The average UK person per day: 41kg CO2e
  • A typical Dubai hotel room for the night: 99kg CO2e
  • An economy ticket from London to Ibiza: 206kg CO2e
  • An economy ticket from London to Vietnam: 1,352kg CO2e
  • A business class ticket from London to Vietnam: 3,922kg CO2e
  • 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approx. 250kg of CO2 from the air over a period of 5 – 10 years.

What are we doing about it?
Our adventures are relatively low-carbon by design, and we’re working to develop long term carbon reduction plan. Following much research into climate change organisations, we carefully selected to support the environmental charity, Cool Earth. They’re a sustainable operation and work with rainforest communities across the globe to halt deforestation and it’s impact on climate change. We invest 1% of our revenue into supporting critical conservation projects world-wild with Cool Earth.

On a local level, we’re an ongoing business member of the Snowdonia Society, plus Jim and Sue, together with some of our local leaders, also help the Society with their local projects such as planting native trees in Snowdonia. This is to help preserve the landscape and enhance wildlife habitat here in Snowdonia.

Want to know more?
We believe that with great travel, comes even greater responsibility. Tourism is one of the most important and largest industries on the planet. It employs more people worldwide than any other, with millions of families relying on tourism for their daily needs. At Adventurous Ewe we believe that our type of small scale, positive impact tourism can bring benefits to many communities, help preserve the environments we travel to see, and provide real and positive social exchanges. Here is our plan to do our part towards helping reduce factors that we can contributing to climate change as part of Tourism Declares a Climate Emergency.

Leaders

You will be accompanied by certified and local Adventurous Ewe Leaders and SUP Instructors throughout your Snowdonia SUP, Swim, Sauna & Trek weekend.

They’re a friendly bunch with a huge level of care and a great sense of humour. Rest assured they are fully experienced and remote first aid qualified. They will be ultimately responsible for the running of the itinerary and the safety of your group.

Leaders will carry safety equipment and first aid kits with them at all times. Please note, these kits are for emergencies only so please come prepared with your own personal first aid items.

Please note, the itinerary is there as a guide and may change due to unusual weather patterns, the strength of the group, and other unpredictable factors. We will do our very best to keep to the set itinerary; however we cannot be held responsible for any last minute changes that may occur. In all such circumstances, your Leader will have the final say.

Group size

We pride ourselves in small group adventures to minimise the impact on the environment, to maximise your safety & well-being and to make your experience more authentic.

The minimum group size for this trip to run is 10 people. The maximum group size is 14 people.

For any further info or to chat about running a bespoke weekend, we’d love to hear from you at info@adventurousewe.co.uk or call 01492 588 069.

Trip grading

The Snowdonia SUP, Swim, Sauna & Trek weekend is graded as ‘Moderate’ dependent on weather conditions. Preparation is key to help you get the most enjoyment and reward from this adventure. A good level of fitness, endurance and some gritty determination will help you conquer each of the activities.

Trekking: the route follows established paths which are rocky and uneven. There are no technical climbing sections. Hiking boots are highly recommended given the uneven terrain and mountainous weather conditions. The trek should take approx. 6 hours to complete.

Paddleboarding: previous paddleboarding experience is not required as full instruction and support will be provided. As a safety precaution we recommend that you’re able to swim 25m in distance. If you are not a confident swimmer please let us know so we can make the necessary plans.
